UEFA income ranking

Barça top Champions League takings
www.fcbarcelona.cat
FC Barcelona made more money than any other Spanish club in last season’s edition of the Champions League and with total takings of 22.7 million euros were ninth in the overall classification.

This Tuesday, UEFA announced the profits generated by the latest edition of the Champions League and of the three Spanish teams that made it into the group stage, FC Barcelona made the most money, a total of 22.7 million euros. Ahead of Valencia and Madrid Barça were the only Spanish side in the top ten in terms of money made out of Europe’s premier club competition. They finished ninth, thus narrowly beating Valencia, who made 22.6 million euros, and lie eleventh, and the twelfth placed Real Madrid on 21 million euros. The club that took home the biggest pot was champions AC Milan, with 39.5 million euros, while Liverpool, their opponents in the final, made 32.2 million. Curiously, though, that was only enough to place them third, with the team they knocked out in the semis, Chelsea, actually making more out of their European campaign. The criteria For the entire 2006-07 Champions League, UEFA shared out a total of 579.6 million euros. Of the income dived between the clubs, half was on a fixed rate and the other half was distributed on the basis of the commercial market value of each of the federations in the tournament. Each club reaching the group stages received a fixed rate of 2 million euros, with a 400,000 euro bonus per game played, as well as 600,000 euros for a win and 300.000 euros for a draw. Knockout payments The 16 teams that made it into the second round, which included FC Barcelona, received 2.2 million euros each. Barça left the tournament at this stage, beaten by Liverpool, and missing out on the 2.5 million euros for the quarter finalists, and the extra 3 million for reaching the semi finals. AC Milan, as champions, netted an additional 7 million, while runners-up Liverpool made 4 million.
Income ranking:
1. Milán: 39.592.000 €. 2. Chelsea: 34.662.000 €. 3. Liverpool: 32.218.000 €. 4. PSV: 31.600.000 €. 5. Manchester Utd: 31.533.000 €. 6. Roma: 31.086.000 €. 7. Inter: 29.582.000 €. 8. Bayern Munich: 28.732.000 €. 9. FC Barcelona: 22.702.000 €. 10. Olympique Lyon: 22.647.000 €. 11. Valencia: 22.601.000 €. 12. R. Madrid: 21.026.000 €.

New Signing

FC Barcelona and Real Zaragoza S.A.D. have reached an agreement over the transfer of Gabriel Milito at midday today.
This accord was reached after the Blaugrana had already agreed a deal with the player that would see him sign a four-year contract at Camp Nou and have a buy-out clause included of €90m. Once
Gabi Milito’s participation in the Copa América draws to a close he is expected to travel to Barcelona to undergo a medical before signing a contract and being officially presented as an FC Barcelona player.

Gabriel Milito was the missing piece in the Barça defensive jigsaw and the announcement of an agreement to sign him from Real Zaragoza takes the Catalan club's total number of summer signings to four.
Following the arrival of Èric Abidal from Lyon, FC Barcelona have strengthened their rearguard by capturing Gabi Milito. The Argentinian international, known as 'The Marshall', has all the qualities that the Blaugrana were looking for. He is authorative, strong in the tackle and has good positional sense that enables him to help build attacks from the back. Despite being only 1.79m tall, one of Milito's main strengths is his ability in the air, both at the back and in converting set pieces up front. Injury blow Gabriel Milito was born in Bernal (Buenos Aires) on September 7, 1980. After rising through the ranks at Independiente, he made his first-team debut for the club aged 17. Even though he was still very young, he was a key member of the Avellanda club's back line and was always predicted to have a very bright future in front him. A serious injury in March, 2001 put his career on hold, however as he damaged ligaments in his right knee and was ruled out of action for around nine months. Soon after returning from that blow, Milito then suffered an injury to his meniscus and was sidelined for a further four months. Back to his best After overcoming the two knee injuries, Milito became one of the stars of the Apertura in 2002 as Independiente won the title. That season he was chosen as the Argentinian Player of the Year. Then, a year later, he opted to try his luck in Europe and moved to Spain. Madrid miss out Real Madrid appeared to have won the race for his signature, but just before he was due to sign a contract the medical services of the club called off the move as they believed that he had not properly recovered from the two knee injuries. Real Zaragoza found no such problems and signed him. Revenge was quickly delivered as Milito helped the Aragón-based outfit to win the Copa del Rey by beating Madrid in the final on Montjuïc. By the time that Zaragoza won the Spanish Super Cup, Milito was considered to be one of the best defender in la Primera. His performances throughout his four years with Zaragoza have always been exceptional. Brothers in arms For the past two seasons, Gabi Milito has played in the same team as his brother, Diego, at la Romareda. The Militos have been two of the main stars of the side as the team claimed a place in the UEFA Cup at the end of last season. The duo became strong favourites at Zaragoza, With Gabi strong at the back and Diego hitting the goals in at the other end. Latest Pre-season match

Football
01.07.2007 10:00
Bayern v Barça on August 15
Roger Bogunyà
FC Barcelona will take on Bayern Munich in a farewell encounter for veteran midfielder Mehmet Scholl on August 15 in the Allianz Arena at 18:00.With the 2007/08 Spanish league season due to kick off on August 25 and 26, Barça will play the high-profile encounter ten days before as part of their pre-season preparations. Scholl has announced that he will retire this summer and this game will be the last that he plays in the famous red shirt of Bayern. Last year The last time the Blaugrana met the Bundesliga giants was just last summer in the Joan Gamper Trophy match. On August 22, 2006 Barça won convincingly as goals from Ronaldinho (2), Samuel Eto'o and Javier Saviola gave the home side a 4-0 victory in Camp Nou. Season kick off This year, the game between Bayern and Barça will take place four days after the German's first league game of the season against Hansa Rostock. The following weekend they then face a very tricky trip to Werder Bremen. Signing on Bayern have had a busy summer of rebuilding as they have brought in several new sigings. Miroslav Klose has come from Werder Bremen, Zé Roberto from Santos, Franck Ribéry from Marseille, Luca Toni from Fiorentina, Marcell Jansen from Borussia Mönchengladbach, Ernesto Sosas from Estudiantes La Plata, Hamit Altintop from Schalke 04 and Jan Schlaudraff from Aachen. The eight new arrivals will join a squad that already contains outstanding players such as Oliver Kahn, Lúcio, Lukas Podolski and Bastian Schweinsteiger, as well as former Barça midfielder Mark van Bommel after he moved to the club last summer. Moving out The change of personnel came about after the club had a relatively poor Bundesliga campaign last time out and missed out on the Champions League. Roy Makaay has left for Feyenoord, Owen Hargreaves has joined Manchester United, Claudio Pizarro has signed for Chelsea, Hasan Salihamidžić has moved to Juventus, Andreas Görlitz has been loaned to Karlsruhe and Scholl has retired.
